Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Heading To Macon Tuesday
St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 To Pay $12,000 To Winner
MACON, IL (July 24, 2017) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will close out the month of July by visiting central Illinois this Tuesday, July 25. Racing at mighty Macon Speedway's 1/5-mile in Macon, IL, is on tap in an event that was originally scheduled in April. The 100-lap event will be paying $12,000 to the winner and will see some of the best Super Late Model drivers in the country, vying for the top prize.
The 4th Annual St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 at Macon Speedway will see some of the best Super Late Model drivers in the country converge on one of the most exciting tracks which will put them in two, three, and sometimes even four wide formation, while racing for the top prize. The highly-anticipated event at the 1/5-mile bullring will include a complete program of: Miller Welders Time Trials, Heat Races, B-Mains, and the 100-lap, $12,000-to-win main event.
In 2016, Bobby Pierce wrestled his No. 32 entry to Victory Lane after a grueling 100-laps with no power steering. Brandon Sheppard finished a close second, followed by: Earl Pearson Jr., Don O’Neal, and Darrell Lanigan. The racing was unbelievable for the complete 100 laps with the end of the race being crazy down the stretch, seeing three wide racing for the lead spot. Pierce also is coming off of the Herald & Review 100 win at the track, earlier this month.
This year, Josh Richards, who won the World of Outlaw Late Model championship last season, leads the Lucas Oil Late Models this year. The veteran, Scott Bloomquist, is second in the standings. Tim McCreadie, Don O'Neal, and Jimmy Owens round out the top five. Earl Pearson, Jr., Darrell Lanigan, Dennis Erb, Jr., Gregg Satterlee, and Steve Francis are top ten point competitors. Throw in Pierce, Brandon Sheppard, Shannon Babb, Jason Feger, Ryan Unzicker, and all of the other stars expected and you have the making for another unreal event.
The Billingsley Elite Wash UMP Modifieds will be racing for $1,000 to win and $100 to start this week as part of the special event. Heading into the weekday race, the point lead is just 24 for last year's champion, veteran Curt Rhodes. Mason City's Austin Lynn, who picked up his first career win on Saturday night, sits in the second spot. The Mods have had exciting races the last couple of weeks with the likes of Rhodes, Lynn, Standerfer, and more. This week's event will also see NASCAR personalities Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader.
Rounding out the Saturday card will be the UMP B-Mods, which have had a strong field of cars all season long. Cody Stillwell leads the way by just ten points over last year's champion Tim Hancock. Hancock has won six of the eleven features this year, while Stillwell has two, Tim Hancock, Jr. has two, and Richie Gabriel has one.
Pit gates will open Tuesday at 3:00, grandstands at 4:00, local division pill draw ends at 5:50, hotlaps start at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00. Grandstand admission is $30 for adults and $5 for kids 11 and under.
