Crawley Takes Osman Memorial
(Macon, IL) It wasn't easy but Dave Crawley, Jr. won the 2nd John Osman Memorial at Macon Speedway Saturday night. With 40 Street Stock competitors signed in, Crawley placed first in his heat race, scored second in the Dash for Cash, which set up the first five positions of the 47-lap feature attraction, and led all but two laps in the A-Main. Last year's winner Andrew Funk was up to the challenge to de-thrown Crawley as the winner and made Crawley work as perfectly as possible around the track but Funk took advantage of lapped traffic in the way to take the lead on lap 42. His lead would be short-lived, and by the waving of the green flag signaling two laps remaining, Crawley was back in front. The race was a long one, needing 37 minutes to complete the 47 laps. There were also 12 caution flags during the proceedings. Three different states were represented with drivers as Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky each had at least one driver compete. Mike Clark of Maryville, Ind., was awarded the Hard Charger award as he finished sixth after starting 18th.
Tommy Seets made it to the winner's circle in his first Macon Speedway feature of 2016, besting Ray Bollinger and Rodney Standerfer.Seets started in the second row but managed to blow past the lead row early and hold on for the win.
Jeremy Nichols returned to victory lane in the Sportsman division after taking the 2016 Sportsman Nationals event in Springfield during the Illinois State Fair. Nichols is the current points leader in the Sportsman class.
Tim Hancock remained unstoppable in the B-Modified group with his 13th consecutive win and remains the only B-Modified driver to win a feature at Macon Speedway in 2016.
Dakota Ewing made his mark on the night with a Pro Late Model feature win. Ewing, son of multi-time Street Stock driver Steve Ewing, has had a rough patch lately in the end of the season but made the most of his opportunity in the front row and dashed away to the checkered flag, his first at Macon Speedway this season.
Jared Matherly finished off the night with a checkered flag in the Hornets division. The win was his fourth at Macon Speedway this season.
