Macon Speedway Beats Mother Nature To Checkers

(Macon, IL) Despite rain forecasted and precipitation falling in central Illinois, Macon Speedway was cleared for dirt racing action and that worked out well for Rodney Standerfer.

Standerfer, the former Billingsley Towing Modifieds track champion led all 50 laps in the Modified portion of the annual Mueller Distributing Miller Lite Twin 50s. The race started with 19 consecutive green flag laps before cautions slowed the pace. Standerfer said in closing, “Watch out for that guy, number 10, Daryn Klein, he’s good.

Fans were indeed watching Daryn Klein in the Super Late Model portion Twin 50s as Klein was leading through nearly 40 laps. A smoke screen was coming from the rear of the car and with ten laps left and Klein was forced to pull into the infield. That opened the door was Joseph Hughes and Dave Crawley, Jr.

Hughes gave up the lead to Crawley, Jr. with six laps to go. Crawley clung to the concrete up top, while Hughes was anchored to the bottom. Crawley won in his first Late Model start in 2015.

Timmy Dick of Monticello made a late move to take the lead from Dennis Vandermeersch in the Sportsman feature.  For Dick, it was his second win of the year in Sportsman racing at the 1/5-mile.

Nick Justice led all 15 green-flag-laps in the Street Stock feature event and was constantly hounded by Greg Osman and Jeremiah Hoadley.  They, however, were not able to take the victory away from the Harristown native.

Jeremy Reed won for the second time in the Hornets at Macon Speedway this season. Adam Webb, the usual winner’s circle occupant, started at the tail due to not making his heat race. Webb did charge toward the front but wasn’t able to make it all the way to the top spot and came off the track before the race ended.

Coming next Saturday night is the University Dogs Three Dog Night Event featuring a hot dog eating contest and $1 hot dogs and a Big Ten Series race for the Street Stocks.
