Pro Late Models race to season opener at Macon Speedway

            MACON, Ill. – When the green flag drops on the 2015 season at Macon Speedway Saturday, the addition of Pro Late Models as a regular class brings exciting and competitive racing to the legendary fifth-mile high banked dirt oval. Macon Speedway has long been known as a hotbed for Late Models. By adding Pro Late Models to the schedule, Macon Speedway is excited to keep the sport alive in Central Illinois.

Pro late Models will run as a highlight during the Spring Fling season opener Saturday. Big Ten Street Stocks, Sportsman, Billingsley Towing Modifieds and Hornets will also race as the track opens for its 70th season.

After running for the first time at Macon Speedway last season during a two-day points fund combined with an appearance at Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway, Pro Late Models become a regular part of the thrilling show at the famed speed plant. Drivers and fans have been anxiously awaiting the start of the season, because of the great number of area drivers building cars to compete in the newly formed division. Pro Late Models are especially attractive to drivers, who like the affordable cost of building a competitive car while also enjoying the strategy of so many adjustments.

With such a large number of rookies racing in the opener, expect the unexpected, and there will likely be plenty of paint traded.

Big Ten Series Street Stocks open the 10-race season within a season for the dirt stock cars, the Big Ten Series Street Stocks also racing later this year at Lincoln Speedway, Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway and the Christian County Fair in Taylorville, Ill. It’s the first of five appearances by Big Ten Street Stocks at Macon Speedway this season.

In addition to the racing, Macon Speedway also will host Driver-Sponsor Appreciation Night with a photo and autograph session. It’s also CEFCU Kid’s Club night.       Pit gates open at 4 p.m. with the grandstands open at 5. Racing starts at 7.
