Double features for POWRi midgets, micros at Macon Speedway scheduled for Aug. 16
Â
MACON, Ill. – Mother Nature hasn’t been kind to POWRi midget and micro drivers and fans when it comes to Macon Speedway. Rainouts kept POWRi from crowning feature winners at Macon Speedway yet this season.
When POWRi returns to Macon Speedway Saturday during IHOP Night, the series is in the middle of Illinois Speed Week, a four-day campaign at four tracks. With drivers and machinery already stressed from the busy schedule, the program at Macon Speedway will include single features in the Lucas Oil National Midget Series and the Outlaw Micro divisions, instead of going with the double feature program scheduled on May 17 because of an earlier program cut short by rain.
“We always look forward to racing at Macon Speedway,’’ POWRi co-founder Kenny Brown said. “Unfortunately because of our busy schedule, we won’t be able to run the double features at Macon Speedway this weekend.’’
The POWRi double features program is set for Aug. 16, when the POWRi also races at Lincoln Speedway the previous night. Many of the open-wheel racers will also compete in the Tony Bettenhausen Memorial for USAC Silver Crown cars at the Illinois State Fairgrounds earlier on Aug. 16 before coming to Macon Speedway that night for double features in both the midget and micro classes.
“The double features program on Aug. 16 is a better fit,’’ said Macon Speedway promoter Bob Sargent. “The double features at Macon Speedway will cap an outstanding weekend of open-wheel racing.’’
