Drivers from U.S., Australia and New Zealand expected to compete in POWRi Speed Week

MACON, Ill. – The POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series is set to run during four nights at four tracks during Illinois Speed Week, including Macon Speedway, the crown jewel of the midget series. The legendary fifth-mile oval hosts IHOP Night Saturday, when the B.G. Nevitt Memorial Faster Pastor Race shares track time with the POWRi midgets and micros plus racing in four other classes.

Last year’s Illinois Speed Week brought out some of the world’s best midget and micro drivers with Christopher Bell ultimately being crowned the 2013 Illinois Speed Week midget champ and Cale Thomas winning the 2013 Illinois Speed Week micro champ. After a wildly successful run last season, POWRi brings the wheel-to-wheel daredevils back for four consecutive nights where slide jobs will keep every lap exciting.

Drivers from the United States, Australia and New Zealand are expected to compete in this season’s POWRi Illinois Speed Week.

The four-day run opens at Quincy Raceways Thursday, when POWRi runs the quarter-mile track for the first time. After racing at Lincoln Speedway Friday, the POWRi show makes an appearance at famed Macon Speedway Saturday, always a favorite stop for drivers and fans. The swing concludes Sunday at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville.

With so much action in four days, promoters decided to schedule the POWRi double feature program at Macon Speedway on Aug. 16. The double features were rescheduled from an earlier rainout in April. POWRi will be a great show in August, when the drivers will also race at Lincoln Speedway the previous night and the Illinois State Fairgrounds for the Tony Bettenhausen Memorial in USAC Silver Crown cars the same day before coming to Macon Speedway.

Drivers have extra incentive to make a move and go for the win during Illinois Speed Week. Each midget feature race pays $2,500 to win during Illinois Speed Week. For the micros, each feature pays $1,000 to win. Additionally, both the midget and micro champs from Illinois Speed Week will receive a $1,000 bonus at the season-ending banquet.
