Schrader, Wallace to race UMP modifieds at Macon Speedway on action packed May 1

MACON, Ill. – It’s a full night of racing on May 1. While the St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 for Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series cars take top billing in their first ever appearance at legendary Macon Speedway, there’s much more racing.

NASCAR stars and Macon Speedway co-owners Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace will compete in the UMP modified division that pays $1,000 to win and $100 to start the feature. Schrader and Wallace planned on racing at Macon Speedway on April 5 for the Spring Fling before rain postponed the start of the local racing season.

The two St. Louis natives know how to get to the front, so they will be the favorites on the fifth-mile banked dirt oval, but Macon Speedway’s pack of talented local drivers are primed for grabbing the win and cashing the big check. It’s more than just money. It’s about the pride of beating a NASCAR star.

The St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 pays $12,000 to win and $1,000 to start the feature, so the big names in dirt track racing are expected to attend a race that will pack the stands with excited race fans who will likely arrive early to begin the festivities early. Gates will open at 4 p.m., an hour early to accommodate a big crowd. Racing starts at 7. Tickets are $30 and sold day of the race. RV parking is available, and a midway of souvenir trailers will also generate interest just outside the Macon Speedway main gate.

Macon Speedway is located nine miles south of Decatur on U.S. 51, then 0.6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south to 205 N. Wiles. Macon Speedway hosts racing every Saturday night, plus many weeknight specials.
