Big Ten Series street stocks, hornets roar into Christian County Fair in July for Twin 25's

MACON, Ill. – Track Enterprises, Inc., plans to rev up the Christian County Fair with stock car racing on the quarter-mile fairgrounds dirt track in Taylorville. The fair gets some extra horsepower when Midwest Big Ten Series UMP street stocks and UMP outlaw hornets roar into town on July 24 as Larry’s Service Center presents the Twin 25’s.

The two competitive divisions are excited to headline the show, so the drivers won’t hold anything back while racing for the victory in front of the big Christian County Fair crowd in a pair of 25-lappers. The street stocks will battle for $500 to win while the hornets race for a $200 first-place prize.

“I’m excited to bring the street stocks and hornets to the Christian County Fair,’’ said Bob Sargent, the Macon Speedway promoter and Track Enterprises president. “The street stocks will be in the midst of the intense Big Ten Series for a huge prize fund, and the hornets always put on an action-packed show because they don’t worry about banging doors.’’

The street stocks race is part of the Big Ten Series, a 10-event campaign with races also at Macon (Ill.) Speedway, Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway and Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway as drivers battle for a $3,000 prize fund. The street stock loyalty promotion includes larger payouts to the feature winner. At the end of the 10-race series, driver points accumulated will determine the Midwest Big Ten Series champion. The overall champ earns $1,000, and the payouts continue through the top 10.

The series opens Saturday at Macon Speedway in a race that pays $500 to win.

The thrilling Macon Speedway schedule includes a pair of NASCAR Night of Stars, planned for May 26 and another date the second week of June. NASCAR stars such as Macon Speedway co-owner Tony Stewart make an appearance to sign autographs and take to the dirt. The track also has two premier late model shows on the 2014 schedule. The St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series are ready to race here for the first time on May 1 for a $12,000 first-place prize. The UMP Summernational tour hits Macon Speedway for the Herald-Review 100 on July 10.

Macon Speedway is one of the Midwest’s most famous dirt racing facilities. Co-owned by Sargent and NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace, the track is a fan favorite for the layout that creates plenty of wheel-to-wheel action. Macon Speedway is located nine miles south of Decatur on U.S. 51, then 0.6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south to 205 N. Wiles. Macon Speedway hosts racing every Saturday night, plus many weeknight specials.
