Big Ten Series street stocks race for $500 prize on Driver-Sponsor Appreciation Night

MACON, Ill. – Macon Speedway keeps finding another gear as the racing season picks up speed. One week after holding its season opener, the legendary high-banked fifth-mile dirt oval hosts Midwest Big Ten Series street stocks on Saturday, April 19 in the first night of a 10-race tour. Big Ten street stocks will be gunning for a $500 first-place prize in the series opener.

In the inaugural season, Big Ten Series street stocks will hold five races at Macon Speedway, more than any other track during the series. Macon Speedway also hosts Big Ten street stocks on May 3, June 21, Aug. 23 and Aug. 30. The series will travel to Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway and Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway and bring stock car racing back to the Christian County Fair in Taylorville on July 24.

Gene Reed of Blue Mound won the street stocks championship at Macon Speedway last season, but Macon native Greg Osman claimed the victory in street stocks at the Macon Speedway season opener last week.

In other action on April 19, Macon Speedway will also race late models, Billingsley Towing modifieds, sportsman, outlaw hornets, stock hornets and the Illinois Lightning Sprint Series. Ryan Little of Springfield held off reigning series champ Steve Sheppard Jr. in Big Ten Series late models in the Macon Speedway season opener.

It’s also Driver/Sponsor Appreciation Night at Macon Speedway. CEFCU Kid’s Club will  entertain kids 11 years old and younger. The club is free and meets roughly once a month. A themed “party’’ is set for each and every month so kids can play and learn.

There will also be a visit from the Easter Bunny, and he will lead the kids on an Easter Egg hunt. So bring the entire family out for a night at the races.

Pits open at 4 pm. Gates swing open at 5 and racing starts at 7.

The thrilling Macon Speedway schedule includes a pair of NASCAR Night of Stars, planned for May 26 and another date the second week of June. NASCAR stars such as Macon Speedway co-owner Tony Stewart make an appearance to sign autographs and take to the dirt. The track also has two premier late model shows on the 2014 schedule. The St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series are ready to race here for the first time on May 1 for a $12,000 first-place prize. The UMP Summernational tour hits Macon Speedway for the Herald-Review 100 on July 10.

Macon Speedway is one of the Midwest’s most famous dirt racing facilities. Co-owned by Sargent and NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace, the track is a fan favorite for the layout that creates plenty of wheel-to-wheel action. Macon Speedway is located nine miles south of Decatur on U.S. 51, then 0.6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south to 205 N. Wiles. Macon Speedway hosts racing every Saturday night, plus many weeknight specials.
