FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
APRIL 14, 2014
MACON, Ill. – Macon Speedway announces the inaugural season of the Midwest Big Ten Series for UMP street stocks and a huge first-place prize in the Big Ten street stocks opener at Macon Speedway on Saturday, April 19. The 10-race series will also travel to Christian County Fair (Taylorville, Ill.), Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.) and Jacksonville Speedway (Jacksonville, Ill.) as drivers battle for a $3,000 point fund.
The Big Ten street stocks winner will earn $500 at Macon Speedway Saturday night.
The street stocks loyalty promotion includes larger payouts to the feature winner. At the end of the 10-race series, driver points will determine the Big Ten Series champion. The overall champion earns $1,000, and the payouts continue through the top 10. Big Ten Series street stocks include dates at Macon Speedway on April 19, May 3, June 21, Aug. 23 and Aug. 30. The series races at the Christian County Fair in Taylorville on July 24.
Gene Reed of Blue Mound captured the Macon Speedway street stocks championship last year, but Macon native Greg Osman won the street stocks feature at Macon Speedway’s opener on April 12.
“Macon Speedway has a talented group of drivers in the street stocks division, and it’s great to see them battle against racers from other local tracks,’’ Macon Speedway promoter Bob Sargent said. “Macon Speedway knows that without our drivers, we couldn’t succeed. This program is a way to give back to the racers who call Macon Speedway home.’’
The thrilling Macon Speedway schedule includes a pair of NASCAR Night of Stars, planned for May 26 and another date the second week of June. NASCAR stars such as Macon Speedway co-owner Tony Stewart make an appearance to sign autographs and take to the dirt. The track also has two premier late model shows on the 2014 schedule. The St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 and the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series are ready to race here for the first time on May 1 for a $12,000 first-place prize. The UMP Summernational tour hits Macon Speedway for the Herald-Review 100 on July 10.
Macon Speedway is one of the Midwest’s most famous dirt racing facilities. Co-owned by Sargent and NASCAR stars Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace and Stewart, the track is a fan favorite for the layout that creates plenty of wheel-to-wheel action. Macon Speedway is located nine miles south of Decatur on U.S. 51, then 0.6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south to 205 N. Wiles. Macon Speedway hosts racing every Saturday night, plus many weeknight specials.
