Macon Speedway opens with Big Ten late models Saturday after Sheppard wins tour's first race

 

MACON – Reigning Midwest Big Ten Series late model champion Steve Sheppard Jr., of New Berlin is already picking up where he left off last season. Sheppard heads to Macon Speedway Saturday night (April 12) after winning the first race of the series Friday.

Macon Speedway opens its 69th season by featuring Big Ten Series late models. The program also includes Billingsley Towing Modifieds, Street Stocks, Sportsman, Outlaw Hornets, Stock Hornets and the first appearance at the historic track by the B-Mods.

After sitting third early in the feature at Jacksonville Speedway, Sheppard forced his way into the lead following a strong battle with Brian Dively and Justin Reed. Dively, who went wheel to wheel with Sheppard last season, traded paint with Sheppard before the champ made his move, and it looks like that’s a battle that may get intense this season.

Little finished second but Dively fell through the pack to end up 10th.

Macon Speedway hosts racing for the 69th seasons. The 2014 schedule features two NASCAR Night of the Stars where NASCAR drivers are available for autographs and pictures before competing with the local favorites. The track also hosts two premier late model events with the St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on May 1 and the Herald & Review 100 on July 10 as part of the UMP Summernationals
