Macon Speedway announces addition of exciting, competitive B-mods to racing program

MACON, Ill. – Legendary Macon Speedway is excited to unveil a new division that will help racers compete and enjoy a fun, exciting hobby on an economical basis.

The UMP B-mod division is designed to keep costs from climbing through a set of rules aimed toward building a division based on competitive, tight, fun racing without busting the bank. The B-mod division will race six times on Macon Speedway’s historic fifth-mile banked oval. Drivers are already excited about the future of the class. The first B-mod race at Macon Speedway is April 12, and the hope remains to add additional nights this season.

“We’ve watched as drivers have been pushed away from the sport because of rising costs of running their programs in other divisions,’’ Macon Speedway co-owner Bob Sargent said. “The B-mod class is designed to hold the costs down so a racer can compete without relying on his bank account.’’

Rules concerning tires, suspension, engine and fuel will be strictly enforced to empower the B-mod class’ growth. Area promoters expect the class to grow in numbers over the next few seasons.

Macon Speedway is one of the Midwest’s premier dirt racing facilities. Co-owned by NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace, the track is a fan favorite for a layout that creates plenty of wheel-to-wheel action.

Macon Speedway hosts racing for the 69th seasons. The 2014 schedule features two NASCAR Night of the Stars where NASCAR drivers are available for autographs and pictures before competing with the local favorites. The track also hosts two premier late model events with the St. Louis U-Pic-A-Part 100 in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on May 1 and the Herald & Review 100 on July 10 as part of the UMP Summernationals. Fans don’t want to miss the action of traditional nights and new special events. More updates to the schedule will also be released.

Macon Speedway is located nine miles south of Decatur on U.S. 51, then 0.6 miles west on Andrews Street, then south on Wiles.
