Macon Speedway season getting up to speed with car show Saturday, practice session Sunday
MACON, Ill. – The 2014 Macon Speedway season is unofficially here with the Macon Speedway Car Show Saturday (March 29) and Test N Tune practice Sunday (March 30) on the historic fifth-mile banked dirt oval.
The Macon Speedway Car Show is 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum on U.S. 36 east in Decatur. Drivers will proudly unveil their race cars for the first time, showing off new paint schemes and sponsors. It’s a great day to get up close and personal with the machines that will tear around the Macon Speedway dirt track.
Come visit to see the cars and you just might win a prize or contest. Bring your camera. The car show is a prelude to action on the track, which gets underway Sunday.
Test N Tune practice runs from noon to 4 p.m. The pits open at 11 a.m. General admission is free. The concession stand will open. It’s the first chance for drivers to test their equipment on the historic track. Action on historic Macon Speedway will be furious, because this is the only practice session before the speedway opens.
Macon Speedway is one of the Midwest’s most famous dirt racing facilities. Co-owned by Sargent and NASCAR stars Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace, the track is a fan favorite for the layout that creates plenty of wheel-to-wheel action. Located nine miles South of Decatur, Macon Speedway hosts racing every Saturday night, plus many weeknight specials.
